It’s during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light — Great Buddha!

It’s the saddest time as a father — I remember, when my daughter was born in 2009, I was glad that my daughter will not see the war anymore — the war ended in 2009. My daughter would have heard the word bomb very rarely — but that was before 21 April 2019. Now, so many new words are added to her vocabulary! Why?

Negligence of all responsible people. Maybe, it’s our own Negligence, isn’t it? Here, let me list down a few things that I started doing! What do you think? We must protect this beautiful country and I urge you to be mindful and do the right thing! Maybe these thoughts will help you to adjust!

Be mindful!

We lived in a country where we had 30 years of terrorism! Now, it’s so-called global terrorism. All these proves one thing and that is the ‘uncertainty’ of our lives. A young man speaks about the recent bomb attack in a church in Negombo — “We were praying, and it was almost done, with no reason, my wife asked me to walk away for a minute. I was wondering why but could not clarify. I just followed her advice, and it didn’t even take a minute to blast everything!” — The man survives, his loving wife and daughter die. It’s just one strange story I heard. How could this happen? On a Buddhist perspective, this is what life is! Life is full of uncertainty and unpredictable events. How could we face it? Be mindful, do the right thing, live in the moment, be vigilant about the people around you! Be a great human!

This is one way of looking at it yet, an important way I trust. Let’s not allow these bad circumstances to limit us, keep us cornered. Fear is an illusion when you are not in the moment when you are negligent. Put your fearful feelings away! Be strong!

Do the right thing!

Be empathetic about our fellow Sri Lankans -Whether you are Sinhalese, Tamil, Bergher or Muslim, it doesn’t matter, we all love this country — It’s the extremism that we must avoid!

Be vigilant about your surrounding — Of course, we will be stopped by army forces, surely, we will be questioned — without that how could they spot the criminals? Let’s support them — @My fellow colleagues, unfortunately, the terrorists wear the same beard as you do, they may visit the same mosques, churches and temples that you visit for just sake of visiting, they may be around your surroundings, be vigilant and spot them and once you spot any culprit, it doesn’t matter if they are in your family, we must catch them! Otherwise, how can you be safe?

Avoid or Minimize your presence in large gatherings, be careful when you travel

Hatred and negative emotions such as anger won’t help you in any degree! It just like holding a glass of hot water, the more you hold it, you are the one gets hurt. Let’s work against terrorism, let combat it with the right attitude and the right human values!

Don’t let it hit your mind!

“It’s during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light” — Great Buddha!

We are greatly saddened and shocked after seeing that hundreds of our known ones, colleagues and tourists who loved this country were killed and wounded! This is not right! What can we do as a tribute to them? Let’s not allow these terrorist groups to hit our mind, put us down. Instead, let’s be careful, be safe, vigilant, let’s be strong, let’s believe that we all can face it, combat this stupidity with compassion — Let’s not show hatred, but compassion to the world, let’s show that we as Sri Lankans are stronger than before!

We are strong, we are united, and we will face it! Nothing can knock us down, nothing! Finally, let’s be reminded of what we stand for:
